Madrid has something for all tastes
and all budjets. You’ll naturally
find the big names, such as Zara and Promod, which are found all round
Europe. A multitude of local designers and manufactures can be found, who
often experiment with fabrics and materials to create a unique look. Shoe
lovers will find a fantastic display of variety and good quality leather
products.
There are three main shopping districts in Madrid. If you’re keen
on luxury and ready to-wear clothes, head for the Salamanca area. With
its small shopping arcades and elegant up-market boutiques. Selling classic
designer clothes, shoes and accessories, it’s a wonderful place to
shop. If you like trendier style clothing head for Calle Almirante and
Calle Conde de Xiquena in the Chueca district. Souvenirs can be purchased
around the Puerta del Sol region. There are good food and wine markets
in the city and don’t miss the Rastro-one of the best flesmarkets
in Europe.
Opening times of the shops in Madrid can often be quite confusing but most
open 10am-2pm and 5pm-8pm.
If you venture into the high street fashion you’ll find excellent
value on leather goods such as jackets, shoes and bags. Often the retailors
can be bargained with and you can purchase the item for a reduced price.
