Madrid is renowned for its nightlife and for
its incredible choice of bars, of all kinds and sizes. But don’t
miss out on its cultural life- the city is chock full of fascinating museums
and theatres staging
a dazzling variety of shows, plays and operas- go have a blast!
Where to go for nightlife
Madrid is like one big festival at night, and you’ll find good bars
in most of the districts. You’ll find a mixed crowd around the Plaza
Santa Ana with a constant ‘buzz’ at night, although it is mainly
frequented with a quiet clientele during the day. The conservative types
tend to congregate in the Salamanca district and in the north of the city.
The nightlife in Madrid only really starts at about 1-1.30am, and if you’re
thinking about a club don’t think of arriving before 2am as they’ll
be empty any earlier. Even on weekday evenings the discos and clubs don’t
empty until the early hours of the morning.
Dress code is usually not a problem in Madrid therfore wear whatever you
are comfortable in. A trendy audience made up of artists and showbiz personalities
regularly meet in a club called Roxy. It is a lively place and the partying
is guaranteed to go on until the early hours of the morning. It’s
an experience you will not want to miss. Another clubbers paradise is the
Underground, it can hold up to 1,600 people and it is usually packed at
the weekend. If you are interested in a quiet night why not visit the many
tapas bars that are scattered around the plazas.
Listening to live music is also a favourite in Madrid. Some bars host live
concerts all year round, notably the Clamores and the Honky tonk. Also
throughout the year, and especially at festival time, Madrid offers a wide
variety of shows and events. You can find out more about these from special
agencies.
